ADULT DANCE

What better way to stay in shape and get energized than by dancing?  This special interest group has been going strong at the Portsmouth School of Ballet, 95 Brewery Lane, Portsmouth, N.H. (www.psbnh.com)  The school offers a variety of adult classes, all of them taught by knowledgeable and compassionate teachers who never forget that we are adults, not teens.  No previous dance experience is necessary and no special attire is required.

This fall, you're invited to join any or all of the different classes as a drop-in or by series.  Newcomers attend:

Ballet - Tuesday, at 12:15 p.m.

Jazz - Tuesdays & Fridays at 12:15 p.m.

Other classes offered include tap, pilates and yogilates.

Please contact Seacoast Newcomers Club (info@SeacoastNewcomersClub.com) for any further information or encouragement!

ART HOPPING

This group meets to enjoy various galleries and exhibits in the local area as

well as in Cambridge and Boston.

BOOK CLUB

The Book Club meets in a member’s home on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The book of the month is chosen from members’ recommendations and each discussion is lead by a volunteering member.  New participants are always welcome.

COUPLES
BRIDGE

This group meets the second Saturday evening of the month.  All levels of play are encouraged to join the fun.  Each couple consists of a member of Seacoast Newcomers and another bridge player (usually her spouse).  Couples will host once or twice during the year.  Substitute players are always needed.  New “regulars” are always welcome.

MARATHON BRIDGE

In Marathon Bridge two members form a partnership (team) for the entire season (November through May). Each team plays against a different team once a month. The games are scheduled the first Thursday of the month at Riverwoods in Exeter at 12 p.m.

BUNKO — EVENING

Bunko is an easy to learn fast-paced dice game.  The group meets the first Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in a member’s home.  Group members take turns hosting game night.  The overall winner for the evening takes home a prize!  New members or subs are always welcome.

Canasta

Do you like to play cards and enjoy an entertaining day of relaxation and laughter?  Keep the first Thursday of the month free and join us at 10 a.m. for a rousing game of Canasta.  Bring a bag lunch.  Snacks and beverages are provided.

CRAFT GROUP

This group meets in member's homes the first Thursday of each month to share their own craft ideas and work with people who would love to learn some crafts.

FILM FANS
Film fans attend acclaimed independent, foreign and Hollywood movies at some of the Seacoast’s most engaging theaters. Including among them are the Music Hall in Portsmouth and The Screening Room in Newburyport. After viewing a picture, Film Fans retire to a local restaurant for coffee and lively conversation about the work they have just seen.

FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE

This group meets from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at members’ homes. Bring your needlework or anything else you’d like to work on. You are welcome to just come and chat. The group is open to new participants at any time.

MAH JONG

Mah Jong is a centuries-old Chinese tiles game similar to the card game Rummy, but much more exciting and exotic! We play on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m., rotating at players' homes.  A brief lesson is given at the start of the evening for anyone new to the game.

QUILTING

Quilting anyone?  Let’s get together to work on our hand sewing projects on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m.  Sharing our skills is what we do best.

SKIING
If you enjoy downhill skiing, join us this winter for midweek excursions to local ski hills. We're looking for better conditions and earlier snow than last year.

STUD CLUB

This is a friendly, low-stakes poker game for spouses or anyone who would like to play. We meet at a member's home on the fourth Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Wives usually go to a movie, out to dinner or participate in an activity of the hostess' choice while the guys play cards. The host provides the snacks, the players BYOB. It's a great way to get to know fellow Newcomers. No one goes home broke OR rich!

SUPPER CLUB

Supper club begins the year with an Oktoberfest potluck supper.  Supper Club is for regular group members and subs who gather the first Saturday night of each month for dinner.  The hostess prepares the main dish and participants bring the rest of the menu.  Supper Club members are responsible for hosting one evening for as many people as they are comfortable hosting.  Each month a different combination of members give the opportunity to develop friendships with many interesting people.

THEATRE GROUP

The seacoast is full of exciting new productions from our many local theatres: Pontine, Seacoast Rep., Players Ring, Firehouse in Newburyport as well as the Celebrity Series at UNH.  We attend matinees or evening performances and usually round out the experience with a meal at a local restaurant or with a little after theater coffee.

TRAILWALKING & SNOWSHOEING

Come join us as we walk the many woodland and coastal trails of the Seacoast and surrounding areas.  All you need is a pair of sturdy walking shoes and an adventurous spirit.  Most walks are a few miles and take about an hour.  When the snows fall, we take to the trails on snowshoes and "keep on truckin'."  Everyone is welcome.

WALKING EXETER

Join us Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8 a.m. for a 3-mile walk in Exeter. We meet at the municipal parking lot on Main Street in Exeter. The more who come, the merrier the walk.

WALKING HAMPTON

Join us Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:15 a.m. at the North Beach parking lot.  We walk along the wall in Hampton at 8:30 a.m.

WALKING RYE

Join us on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2 p.m. Park off of Rt. 1A on the Causeway turnoff road. We walk along 1A to Little Boars Head Beach (across from The Beach Plum) and back. This is a 3-mile walk.  Come on down!

WINE TASTING

Wine Tasting group meets on the third Saturday of the month at a member's home. It is a casual event with lots of socializing along with a tasting and discussion of five to seven wines over appetizers and desserts. (You don't need any knowledge of wines to participate and it's certainly acceptable to discard excess wine once you've tasted it!) The cost of the wines is divided by those actually tasting. Typically the cost is $12-17 per taster.  Hosts provide coffee, tea, paper goods and cutlery. The group chair will bring the glasses, score sheets and pencils. If a host prefers not to choose the wines for the evening, the group chair or another volunteer will select them.
